Someone has been sending around a horrifying image purported to have been taken from the top of the World Trade Center, moments before the first hijacked jet crashed into it.

This image bothers me greatly on many levels, not least of which is that it is a fake.

To this end, I have written a careful analysis of the picture, pointing out why it cannot be anything but a fraud.

I don't know how greatly the last week's events have affected your lives. Hopefully those you know and love are safe.

Tuesday morning I awoke to a call from my mother, and tuned in to find Manhattan in chaos: two broken, burning buildings that would collapse before my eyes on live television with newscasters gasping along at the collective horror we should never have had to see. Then the replays... and the Pentagon... and the heartbreaking stories of those who were unable to avoid tragic twists of fate... and the wonderful stories of samaritans who pulled together to help and give hope.

The next morning I went to the local Red Cross center and gave blood. I knew I had to help if I could, and at the time it was all I could think to do.

Later, it occurred to me that maybe there was more I could do.

Now, I share this with you; my own little contribution to the massive outpouring of sentiment. Maybe it's not much. I don't know.

If you agree, pass it on.

September 11, 2001NYC, with flag at half mast

Terrorist attacks today on the World Trade Center complex in New York City and the Pentagon building in Washington, DC have resulted in massive destruction and the deliberate, violent deaths of thousands of Americans.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones and friends, and to those whose fates are still in limbo.

God bless America.

God help us all.
