As a design project, I decided to come up with a logo for the RIT Film/Video/Animation Department. I thought long and hard about what could act as an appropriate, or at the least, interesting symbol for filmmaking. I considered a camera briefly, but ultimately chose a film reel as that element - it's symmetrical, and has a great circular shape (and I happen to be fond of circles). I decided, additionally, that I wanted to give it the flavor of the late 70's/early 80's, so I picked a warm pallete of browns and an almost floral structure for the reel. To acheive this, the central cutout of the reel is a giant asterisk from a typeface called 'Poster Bondoni.'
I like the bold simplicity of the design, and it was later adopted and adapted for the RIT Film/Video/Animation Student Association's homepage.
